Match 5: Yorkshire Ridings edge Berkshire in thriller.

Yorkshire Ridings 146 for 6 (R.Davies 45*; G. Orrell 42*; C.Sethi 2-24) defeated Berkshire 145 for 6 (D.Toose 51; J.Dinsdale 2-22, A.Mackle 2-28).

Batting first, Berkshire’s captain David Tooze batted beautifully to reach a half century before he became one of John Dinsdale’s two wickets. There were some handy contributions from Ken Fuller (26*), Don Townsin (15), Trevor Lacey (13) and Richard West (13) before they settled for a competitive score of 145 for 6 from their allotted 30 overs. It was a consistent effort by the Ridings’ bowling attack as Dinsdale and Mackle captured two wickets each. Chasing 146 for victory, Ridings stumbled to 75 for 6 before an inspirational partnership between Ron Davies (45*) and Gary Orrell (42*) swayed the momentum in their favour. The match went to the very last over with 7 runs required. A boundary off the third last ball sealed a memorable victory for Ridings by 4 wickets.

Match 6: Essex get off the board against a gallant Kent & Surrey

Essex 189 for 3 (S.Sood 84, K.Patel 62) defeated Kent & Surrey 164 for 3 (C.Sharp 70, P.Wakefield 2-19).

Essex batted first and the impressive form of Sanjeev Sood continued as he brought up his 2nd big score of the week (84 off 81 balls) to guide Essex to an imposing total of 189 from their 30 overs. Sood received great support from Kiran Patel (62 off 60) and Paul Wakefield 25. For Kent & Surrey, Neil Richards was the pick of the bowlers with 1 for 26 from 6 tidy overs. In reply, Colin Sharp (70) and Alex Presnell (34) gave their team a slight glimmer of hope before Wakefield’s two late wickets shattered any chance of a Kent & Surrey victory.
