The Table Football (Subbuteo) season, National League 2016 / 2017 that was organized by the Malta Table Football Sports Association (MTFSA) came to an end a few days ago and it was another interesting season, with two competitions being held every month.

In the Premier Division we had a very close finish between Massimo Cremona and Samuel Bartolo, with the latter winning his fifth championship in the last six years, after winning both direct matches against Massimo. Samuel was very consistent during the whole season and won this year’s title with only one defeat. The Premier Division was contested by twelve players. Derek Conti placed third, while Angelo Borg and Hansel Mallia finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Josef Camilleri dominated the First Division and so was promoted undefeated. He had a very good run throughout the season and also promoted with Josef, where Melvin Barun and Jamie Bonnici.

In the Second Division, Mario Camilleri finished first closely followed by Joseph Mifsud. Both players where promoted to the first division.

The Knock Out competition which is the second most important competition of the season had a very good turnout and Massimo Cremona took the honours by winning the final by two goals to one against Mario Camilleri. Both Charles Aquilina and Samuel Bartolo reached the semi-finals.

During the National Category Competitions, we had a very good turnout in the Veteran category. In the final, Adrian Bonnici beat Jason Pisani by two goals to one after extra time. The semi-finalists were Massimo Cremona and Charles Aquilina.

In the Under 19 competition, Melvin Barun once again took the honours after winning the direct match against Jurgen Balzan by three goals to one.

After the season is over, we can now see all the Maltese players that will participate in this year’s FISTF World Cup that will be held in Elancourt, France, in September. The qualified players for the Open category are Malta Champion Samuel Bartolo and Massimo Cremona, while in the Veteran category, Adrian Bonnici and Jason Pisani.
