Open/Close Menu SportMalta is the Government of Malta’s entity for the development and promotion of Sport in Malta.

The Malta Judo Federation is hosting the 13th edition of the European Kata Judo Championships. The Federation is now an experienced organiser as it is hosting these European Championships for the third time, and also organised 2 editions of the World Kata Championships.

For this edition, 120 couples and 3 teams from 20 European countries are flying over to Malta to compete in 7 Kata and Judo Show.

Amongst the dignatories, Malta will be welcoming Mr Sergey Soloveychik, President of the European Judo Union, Mr Ezio Gamba, General Secretary of the European Judo Union and Olympic Champion, and Mr Franco Capelletti, Chairman of the International Judo Federation Kata Commission.

The event will be held at the National Sports School in Pembroke. The couples will all compete on Saturday, starting at 09:00hrs. The opening ceremony will start at 14 :00hrs. On Sunday, the top 6 couples from each Kata will compete for the title of the Open Kata European Champion.

Malta will field 3 couples : Ivan Esposito and Tiziana Apap in the Ju No Kata, Joseph Bonello and Joseph Muscat in the Katame No Kata, and the youngsters Kurt Camilleri and Katryna Esposito in the European Cup Nage No Kata.
