Mark Spiteri beat Greece’s Evangelos Krizzini to move on to the semi final but then lost to favourite Anze Grabijan who was playing home. This meant Spiteri placed 3rd in these Championships clinching a bronze.


Sue Abela dubbed as the Queen of the Mediterranean played against local 15 year old Sara Xuereb. Experience prevailed over youth as Sue proceeded to the semi finals. She faced Giola Pastou of Cyprus and won again to move to the finals. There she was beaten by the French Alexandre Lopes and had to settle for the bronze medal.


Malta still tops the championship tables in the amount of gold medals beating 2nd placed Greece by two gold.
