The fifth week from the Malta Premier League of Darts took place at University of Malta`s Common Room with Norbert Attard, Godfrey Abela, John Agius and Brian Abela winning important matches with only two game weeks remaining before Finals night.

John Ciantar v Godfrey Abela 3-4

Two players starting the night on a two win two loss record opened proceedings with Godfrey Abela edging out John Ciantar in a final leg decider. Ciantar took a commanding 2-0 lead early in the match but an immediate reply from Abela saw him levelling out the match with wins in the 3rd and 4th leg. Ciantar re-claimed the lead with a win in the 5th leg but once again Abela levelled up the match with a 14-dart leg to take the match in a deciding leg. In a leg, which saw both players cancelling each other’s scores out was finally checked out by Abela which gave him his third consecutive win in this campaign and a step closer to securing a top four spot which would guarantees a spot in the National team taking part in the Mediterranean Cup next summer.

John Agius v Vincent Busutill 4-3

J.Agius back to winning ways after two straight defeats in a below par match against team mate Vincent Busutill. The first six legs ended all square so for the second time in the night the match would be decided in the seventh and final leg. The final leg ended up being a one-sided affair with Agius comfortably winning the leg to put his campaign back on track and now sits in fourth place on a 3-2 record.

Norbert Attard v Albert Scerri 4-1

Two players sitting in first and second position in the table faced each other in gameweek 5 with Attard continuing his good run of form to win his fifth match and yet to be beaten. Attard came out with all guns blazing as he took a 3-0 lead in no time with high scoring and efficient checkouts. Scerri avoided a whitewash with a win in the 4th leg but Attard picked off where he left a leg earlier to claim a 4-1 which saw him ending the night on a 107.10 first 9-dart and an 86.52 3-dart average. This win also guarantees him a place in the national team this summer.

Brian Abela v David Attard 4-3

B.Abela claimed his first win in this premier league season in style after coming back from a 0-3 deficit to win 4-3. Attard had numerous opportunities to take out the match in 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th leg with Abela seizing the opportunity every single time. This win also meant that Abela`s hopes of making the top four is still possible but no less than two wins in his last matches and a result or two going his way is required.

Standings: 1st  N.Attard – (5-0) 2nd A.Scerri – (3-2); 3rd G.Abela – (3-2); 4th J.Agius – (3-2); 5th  D.Attard, J.Ciantar – (2-3); 7th V.Busutill – (1-4); 8th B.Abela – (1-4).

Statistics: Best 3-dart average – N.Attard – 86.52; Best leg – N.Attard – 13; 180s – J.Ciantar, J.Agius, N.Attard, G.Abela – 1; Highest checkout – B.Abela – 96.
