Mark Bonello won his first ever Trap Event at the Qormi Clay Shooting Club when he won the Jimmy Bugeja Trophy that was organised on two qualification rounds of 25 clay targets each, where the six highest ranked athletes advanced to the Finals of another five knock out stages from a single shot.
Bonello came from behind as he and Sean Rizzo finished neck and neck in the fourth and fifth stages, with the scores of 33/40 in the fourth stage and 41/50 in the fifth and last stage.
An immediate shoot-off saw Mark Bonello prevail as he smashed his first target as Rizzo missed his right away.
The Finals results were;
1st Mark Bonello 18/25 + 5/5 + 5/5 + 5/5 + 8/10, total score 41/50 + 1
2nd Sean Rizzo 23/25 + 3/5 + 4/5 + 3/5 + 8/10, total score 41/50 + 0
3rd Frank Scorfna 20/25 + 3/5 + 5/5 + 3/5, total score 31/40
4th Paul Formosa 19/25 + 4/5 + 4/5, total score 27/35
5th Nicky Carabott 16/25 + 5/5, total score 21/30
6th George Cassar 16/25, total score 16/25
The top three Shooters in their respective classes concluded their two qualification rounds with the following scores;

A perfect straight of 25/25 hit targets was registered by Nicky Carabott in his second round of the day.
The MSSF Shotgun Trap Programme will continue on Saturday, 25 and on Sunday, 26 February 2017 at the Bidnija Ranges with the Bonnici Brothers Trophy being the third selection shoot for the ISSF World Cup – Cyprus and the first of four other selection shoots for the 17th GSSE (Games of the Small States of Europe) that will take place from 29 May to 03 June 2017, in San Marino, the smallest and oldest Republic, an enclave on Italy’s North East coast.
