Division One leaders Birkirkara will cross swords with rivals Hibernians in a mouth-watering contest whose outcome can be decisive in view of the title race.
Currently, the Stripes are leading the championship with 37 points having won 12 of their 13 league games. On the other hand, the Paolites are seven points distant from the Stripes in second place, with 10 wins and three defeats. Birkirkara emerged winners with the identical score of 1-0 in the previous couple of games against Hibernians and another win tonight, would enable them to open a 10-point lead with just six matches left. A victory for Hibs, would help them reduce the gap to four-points, providing themselves a lifeline in defending successfully last year’s triumph – (20.15, @Centenary Stadium).
In the meantime, the other game features Raiders (Luxol) and Mgarr United.
With Gozo losing in last Sunday’s match against Kirkop United, Raiders will be hoping to avoid returning home empty handed, in order to start building a lead over bottom placed Gozo and secure a play-off spot. On the other hand, the Greens will strive to take maximum points while hoping for a slip from Hibs against the leaders, in view of the second place as they currently sit eight points behind the defending champions – (20.15, @Charles Abela Stadium – Mosta).
Meanwhile, this match day commenced last Sunday, when Gozo hosted Kirkop United on Gozitan soil. The Reds cruised to victory as they won 6-1, to reach 21 points and sit within a touching distance from Mgarr United in fourth. For the Gozitans, this was another setback in their pursuit to salvage their Division One status – (Gozo vs Kirkop United 1-6).
