Leaders Kalkara St Joseph run of 10 straight wins came to an end this week as they were defeated 5-3 by Mosta Horseshoe Bar A. The first six games ended up all square and saw the same sequence with Kalkara winning a game and Mosta replying immediately to level up. The game changer came in the seventh game as Neville Grech edged out Emmanuel Ciantar 3-2 to give Mosta Horsesehoe Bar A the lead for the first time in the match, which also meant a point was secured for the visitors. The last game was contested between Gordon Stanmore/Mario Aquilina and Albert Scerri/Brian Abela with the latter coming out on top in a 3-1 win to condemn Kalkara St Joseph to their first defeat of the season. Kirsten Aquilina, Gordon Stanmore and Andy Keen winning their games for Kalkara and Albert Scerri, Brian Abela and Godfrey Abela/Tony Borg winning for Mosta. Floriana Ajax A cruised past BBugia Cox Sports Club A 8-0 and now are joint leaders with Kalkara on 33 points with both teams scheduled to meet next on the 3rd February. Mosta Horseshoe Bar A kept their title hopes alive with this win and now trail the leaders by five points.

The second week from the Malta Premier League of Darts took place at the 120Bar, Mellieha which saw Norbert Attard, Albert Scerri and John Agius claiming their second win and John Ciantar his first.


Brian Abela v Albert Scerri 3-4


The night started off in style with a very exciting match between B.Abela and A.Scerri with the latter edging out his teammate 4-3. Scerri took a two leg lead with Abela closing the gap in the third leg but Scerri restored the lead once again in the fourth leg. The fifth leg was the most exciting leg of the night with Scerri starting with 180 and 140 scores and still ending up losing the leg as Abela hit consistent high scores and a 76 checkout. Once again Scerri started the sixth leg in style with 2x 140 scores and the same scenario repeated its self with Abela checking out the double first to take the match into a deciding leg. The final leg saw Scerri first at the doubles and this time made no mistake to claim his second win of this competition.


Godfrey Abela v Norbert Attard 1-4


N.Attard claimed his second win of the competition in a 4-1 win over G.Abela. Two 17 dart finishes by Attard saw him taking a 2-0 lead with Abela replying in the 3rd leg in the best leg of the night in a 13 dart finish. Attard was not fazed by this as he won the 5th and 6th leg which keeps him unbeaten after two matches.


John Ciantar v Vincent Busutill 4-2


Ciantar secured his first win of this campaign in a comfortable win against Busutill who could not replicate his form from last week`s event. The first two legs were shared with Ciantar winning the first and Busutill winning the second. The 3rd and 4th legs saw Ciantar take a two leg lead with Busutill closing the gap with a win in the 5th. A checkout on double one saw Ciantar claiming the win which puts him level with Busutill on 1-1 record.


John Agius v David Attard 4-2


J.Agius continued where he left last week as he hit thirteen 100+ scores in a win over D. Attard. Agius won the first three legs but a short laps of form saw his opponent reducing the gap to one with wins in the 4th and 5th legs. Both players threw darts at the doubles in the 6th leg with Agius stumbling over the finishing line first and now enjoys a 2-0 record.
