George Mifsud claimed the C Grech Grand Prix when he won at the Qormi Clay Shooting Club this weekend.

This Event was organised on three qualification rounds of twenty five targets each, where the top six shooters overall, advanced to the semi-final stages and eventually the Medal Matches.

George Mifsud placed 1st overall with 65/75 in the qualification rounds, 13/15 in the semi-final and 12/15 in the Gold Medal Match as he defeated Frank Scorfna, who had managed 61/75 in qualifications, 9/15 in the semis and 11/15 in the Gold Medal Match.

Sean Rizzo took the Bronze Medal home when he beat Stephen Vella 13/15 to 10/15 in the Bronze Medal Match.

In the semi-final both Rizzo and Vella scored 8/15.

The other two participants who did not make it through to the Medal Matches were Pietro Giallombardo and Paul Formosa when they both hit 7/15 targets in the semi-final.

The Independence Day Trophies were presented by the Hon. Clyde Puli MP to the top three shooters in their respective classes who concluded their three qualification rounds with the following scores;

Class A

1st George Mifsud 65/75

2nd Paul Formosa 65/75

3rd Stephen Vella 63/75

 

Class B

1st Sean Rizzo 63/75

2nd Frank Scorfna 61/75

3rd Stephen Aquilina 58/75

 

Class C

 

1st Darren Aquilina 49/75

2nd Joe Cutajar 46/75

3rd Steve Azzopardi 42/75

 

The MSSF Shotgun Trap Programme will continue on Sunday, 25 September at the Bidnija Ranges with the Darleen Furniture Cup.
