Alvin Vella claimed a second successive win this weekend, when he won the Lorchard Trophy at the Bidnija Ranges.

This event was organised on fifty targets, with the six best overall shooters in qualifications, proceeding to the semi-final and eventually the Medal Matches.

The top six in qualifications were, Alvin Vella who managed 47/50, Joe Xuereb and Frank Scorfna, both finished with the score of 45/50, Jason Magri scored 43/50, Stephen Vella hit 42/50 and Nicky Carabott managed 41/50.

Alvin Vella hit 13/15 in the semi-final and 11/15 in the Gold Medal Match.

Stephen Vella and Frank Scorfna completed the podium in second and third place respectively while Joe Xuereb had to settle with fourth place.

Stephen Vella’s semi-final score was 12/15, he then managed 10/15 in the Gold Medal Match.

Frank Scorfna and Joe Xuereb both hit 11/15 in the semi-final, however Scorfna came on top in the Bronze Medal Match when he beat Xuereb 10/15 to 9/15.

Jason Magri and Nicky Carabott were both knocked out after the semi-final as they only managed 8/15.

A perfect straight of 25/25 was registered by Alvin Vella.

The Class results were the following;


Class A

1st Alvin Vella 47/50

2nd Stephen Vella 42/50

3rd Nicky Carabott 41/50


Class B

1st Joe Xuereb 45/50

2nd Frank Scorfna 45/50

3rd Jason Magri 43/50


Class C

1st George Polidano 39/50

2nd Jason Agius 38/50

3rd Joe Zammit 38/50


The MSSF Shotgun Programme will continue on Wednesday, 21 September with the Independence Day Trophy.

The competitions will be held in three different venues;

The Skeet and the Double Trap events will be held at the Bidnija Ranges, the Trap event will be at the Qormi Clay Shooting Club and the Down the Line (Dritta) will be held at the Southern Shooting Ranges in Hal Far.

Time 10:00 onwards.
