Nazzareno Attard was the overall winner of the Six Nations Olympic Trap Event in The Fazz’a Italian Cup 2016 – Memorial Nando Rossi, when he beat one of the world’s best shooters Giovanni Pellielo in the Gold Medal Match.
The six qualifying Nations were Italy, Malta, San Marino, India, Australia and Iraq.
After the semis, the Maltese shooter won a three-way shoot-off to qualify for Gold with Baku World Cup 2016 Winner, Gian Marco Berti of San Marino and the youngest shooter of the competition Vivaan Kapoor of India. The Indian missed his first target of the shoot-off while the Sammarinese missed his second.
In the Gold Medal Match with the four times Olympic Medals winner, Italy’s Giovanni Pellielo who had won Bronze in Sydney 2000, Silver in Athens 2004, Silver in Beijing 2008 and Silver in Rio 2016, Attard was not intimidated and bettered Pellielo with the score of 13/15 to 12/15.
Gian Marco Berti placed third as he defeated Vivaan Kapoor in the Bronze Medal Match.
This was Nazzareno Attard’s second achievement in a foreign country, when in 2009 he had won Silver in the Small States Games in Cyprus.
The other Maltese shooters competing in the Fazz’a Italian Cup 2016 were Pierre Montebello, Charlie Demanuele, Jean Deguara, Carmel Calleja, Charles Borg, George Cassar and Joe Cutajar.
