The European Weightlifting Championships is the most awaited event of the year, as this will be the last chance for the best of the European athletes to qualify for the Olympic Games in Rio later on this year.
These championships will take place in the beautiful town of Forde in Norway from 10th to 16th April.
For the first time, the Malta Weightlifting Association (MWA) will participate in this high level competition with Rodmar Pulis in the 77kg category. This is very important for the athlete, as it is his last chance to qualify for the Olympics.
The preparation is not an easy one, years of training and commitment are a must to achieve such level, planned training of 8 or more sessions a week, with all that weight and volume is very hard to commit to. For this competition the Association kept the athlete active, to gain more experience and to show confidence in lesser competitions throughout the year, in March he competed in two big international events, the Mediterranean and the European Small Nations Championships. The athlete will continue with his last preparations in Forde before the competition day. This participation could not be possible without the help and support from Malta Olympic Committee and SportMalta.
Jesmond Caruana, President of the Malta Weightlifting Association was selected to be one of the referees in these championships. He will also attend the electoral congress and participate in technical and scientific meetings in which he is also a committee member.
