Maltese Double Trap Shooter William Chetcuti was leading in top place until the first five qualification rounds at The ISSF World Cup Nicosia 2016.

William managed 29/30 in his first round, 27/30 in his second, another 29/30 in his 3rd and two perfect straights of 30/30 in his 4th and 5th round for a total of 145/150, that is 6 clays better than his closest opponent with 139 , to qualify for the semi finals in the first position.

In the semi finals William missed 2 clays while the judge deleted another dubious target for a score of 27/30,that spoiled him the chance for the medal match.


Chianese Alessandro from Italy won the gold with 138/150 – 28/30+6 – 28/30

Holgiun Jeffery from USA won Silver with 139/150 – 28/30+6 – 27/30

Willet James from Australia won Bronze with 138/150 – 28/30+1 – 26/30

Loew Andreas from Germany placed 4th with 139/150 – 28/30+5 – 25/30

Brol Ernique from Guatemala placed 5th with 136/150+8 – 27/30

Chetcuti William from Malta placed 6th with 145/150 – 27/30.


Nathan Lee Xuereb also competed in this double trap where he managed 132/150 to place 18th overall.

MSSF Double Trap coach Jimmy Bugeja assisted the Maltese shooters.

Next week trap shooters, Brian Galea, Nicky Carabott and Frank Scorfna will compete in The ISSF Trap World Cup.
