Open/Close Menu SportMalta is the Government of Malta’s entity for the development and promotion of Sport in Malta.

An excellent start  for the sixth edition of the European Week of Sport with the main national event organised by SportMalta, the National Coordinating of the event in Malta.  The event was held on two days at the Kirkop Sport Complex.

The event focused on a number of team and individual sport competitions in collaboration with the respective national, associations and club.  Sport included an under 13 footballtournament, a 3×3 basketball event, a volleyball competition held over two days, anopen weightlifting champions, judo training session with the participation of various judokas including the national team, mini moto, go karting, an exhibition of drag racing, snooker, line dancing with over 100 dancers, gymnastics by the SportMalta accademt, a badminton tournament , table tennis exhibition matches, a ladies and male handballtournament, a table football competition, mini polo for under 11 kids, indoor rowing and for the first time within SportMalta events a e sport football competition.  There were also activities organized through Special Olympics Malta including bowls.  There were also sessions for aqua fitness.  All participants were given various freebies with the Beactivelogos that included towels, back packs, bottles, face masks, t shirts and more to be used throughout the year,

Hon Clifton Grima visited the events together with Mark Cutajar Chief Executive Officer of SportMalta.  Grima said that he was impressed with the organization and participation and this encourages us to work more.  He thanked SportMalta employees for their commitment.  

Mark Cutajar said that although these events happened behind close doors , the patriationwas excellent and their was good collaboration between the entity most particularly the events department and the Kirkop and Cottoneraemployees, Secretariat for Sport, Associations, St Benedict college and the public health authorities for this event to be a success in the circumstances.

The next event  will be the BeActive night thatwill happen on the 26th of September at the Cottonera Sport Complex and it will be a one of night activity with 16 local personalities battling each other through fitness exercises.  This event will be transmitted live on TVM 2on the day at 20:45.
