From Friday 30th August until Sunday 1st September 7 Maltese Drivers travelled to Challenge the 8.5 Kilometer Chiaramonte Hill for the 62nd Edition of the Monti Iblei Hilclimb. The drivers were, Didier Bugeja on Peugeot 106, Ignazio Cannavo on a Lamborgini Gallardo GT3, Anastasi Joe on an Austin Cooper, Galea Noel on an Escort MK2, Dunford James on a Norma M 20F, Camilleri Darren on a Tatuus Honda, Galea Ian on an Argo Formula F3 Honda and Deidun Ivan Paul.
The biggest success on the day was achieved by Noel Galea, as he finished his day, 1st in his Group, 1st in his Class that includes cars with bigger engines, 18th Overall from 243 cars and the Best Saloon. Galea have been racing for some time in Sicily now hence his technical know how to build and set up his car as well the experience in Sicilian roads is paying off.
This was Darren Camilleri’s first attempt at the hill, and he netted a very respectable result by finishing 2nd in his class, especially when one consider that he did only 1 run on Sunday. Didier Bugeja also got himself a satisfactory results finishing 3rd in his class and 8th in his group of 21 cars. Bugeja was hoping for a better result. Dunford James on his Norma M 20F finished his day in the 2nd place in his class.
Unfortunately Ian Galea, Ivan Paul Deidun and Joe Anastasi were not allowed to race due to some technical issues.
