Raquel Xuereb was by far the strongest female performer throughout the competition as she led all the way from the second game of the 6 game qualifier and also through the round robin losing only once to young Kathryn Fenech.
Fenech had qualified in second place which she maintained through the round robin but then lost to a superb 232 by Liliana Spiteri who then had to face Xuereb. Spiteri was unable to find the same form of the previous game and Xuereb emerged a comfortable and very well deserved winner.
After dominating the male section with a personal best 6 game scratch average of 217, 18 year old Kyle Camilleri maintained his first place at the end of the round robin.
Young Julian Baldacchino who had qualified in 5th place, had another impressive showing and shot up to second place winning all his 5 matches, and faced 3rd place Albert Borg in a tightly contested match that Borg clinched by just 2 pins. Borg then had to face the Camilleri knowing he needed to beat him twice to win. Borg forced the second game by winning the first one 239- 195, and then rolled a 162 with handicap against Camilleri’s 154, to clinch his first ever tournament win.
A special mention needs to go to 9 year old Nicolai Mallia who made it all the way to the final day ending up in a very respectable 4th place
