30 athletes from Malta Karate Federation aged between 13 and 19 took part in the 5th edition of The Small States of Europe Karate Championships which were held in San Marino on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th September 2018.
Athletes competed in both Kata (forms) and Kumite (sparring) winning a total of 6 Gold, 7 Silver and 15 Bronze.  Over 300 elite athletes with 489 entries from Andorra, Cyprus, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Montenegro, Monaco and San Marino took part in these championships placing Malta Team at 4th place overall.

Malta Team was accompanied by Audrey Zammit as HOD, Technical Director Jesmond Schembri, National Coaching Team Michelle Vella, Joe Tanti, Josef Antonelli and Joseph Mizzi and MKF Referees Anthony Zammit, Susan Zammit, Cristina Tonna and Elizabeth Grech.

Malta Karate Federation further consolidated its position within the Small States of Europe Karate Federation with the appointment of MKF Technical Director, Jesmond Schembri, to the SSEKF Technical Commission and the confirmation of MKF President, Kenneth Abela as SSEKF Treasurer.  Furthermore, Susan Zammit, Cristina Tonna and Elizabeth Grech are now official SSEKF Referees after successfully passing refereeing examination held in San Marino.
