Thomas Cremona sets 3rd World Record – Congratulations sent by Kunsill Malti għall-iSport

Thomas Cremona has achieved what he set out to achieve and has become the first Maltese person to row across the Atlantic Ocean. In doing so together with his ‘Atlantic Ocean Row Team’ they have also established a new mid-Atlantic record. Accordingly, the new world record, as officially recognised by the International Ocean Rowing Society (www.oceanrowing.com), has been recorded as 33 days, 21 hours and 46 minutes. The Team left Tarfaya, Morocco  at 13:30 GMT on Wednesday, January 5th 2011 and arrived today in Port St Charles, Barbados, Barbados at 11:16GMT.

The Team consisting of Matt Craughwell, skipper (GB), Thomas Cremona (Malta), Graham Carlin (GB), Rob Byrne (Ireland),  Adam Burke (Ireland) and Fiann Paul (Iceland) covered  a total of 3,168 miles (5098 km) (2753 nautical miles) from Tarfaya to Barbados in an overall average speed of 3.90 miles / hour.

In fact, Bernard Vassallo, Chairman for Kunsill Malti għall-iSport on behalf of the Board of Directors and staff at KMS made contact directly with Thomas Cremona upon his arrival at Barbados and congratulated him personally for all his efforts and achieving this new world record.

Thomas has now set 3 world records in the span of less than 3 months. The first record was set in December 2010 when he took on the World Record Challenge to row for 24 hours on the Concept 2 'Longest Continual Row' in the 'Individual Men 20-29 Heavyweight' category.The second record was achieved on the 18th January when the Atlantic Ocean Row Team, over a period of ten consecutive days,  covered a distance of over 100 miles/160 kilometres f and the latest record arrived today with the newly established mid-Atlantic record.
