Kunsill Malti għall-iSport Launches Summer on the Move 2011 Programmes
Kunsill Malti għall-iSport is launching the Summer on the Move 2011 Sport Programmes with the aim of providing opportunities for youngsters and adults to actively participate in various programmes throughout the summer period, from 11th July to 2nd September.
Summer on the Move sessions include daily morning programmes that cater for different ages from 4 years of age, up to adult fitness sessions which are meant to provide parents the opportunity of engaging in physical exercise while waiting for their children to finish their session. This family oriented measure together with family packages special prices, helps disseminate a healthier sport culture in Maltese parents and their children.
The ‘Active Youngsters’ programme offers youngsters between the ages of 9 years and 16 years the opportunity to spend their summer evenings practicing a new or favourite sport from a wide choice of disciplines including: Football, Modern Dance, Handball, Netball, Educational Karate, Volleyball, Rugby and Basketball. Sport Buzz is also offered in the afternoon together with Canoeing which after popular request, is being introduced for the first time this year. Furthermore the Adventure programme sessions for youngsters between 13 and 16 years of age will now be offered on a 2-day-per-week programme, offering the opportunity for these youths to focus as well on theory.
Venues include Cottonera Sports Complex, Tal-Qroqq Sports Complex (National Swimming Pool and University Sports Hall), Sailing Sessions near Haywharf and Pretty Bay, B’Bugia, Canoeing at Msida Creek and Adventure sessions at various localities.
